Dr. Jeffrey (Jeff) Napp is a Biological/Fisheries Oceanographer at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center of NOAA Fisheries. He received his undergraduate degrees at the University of Washington (1980), his doctorate from the University of California, San Diego (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, 1986), and was a postdoctoral fellow and research faculty member at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences before joining the Fisheries Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (FOCI) Program at NOAA.

He was introduced to estuarine and marine science in elementary school where his school district had a 50-foot research vessel that was used to conduct environmental sampling of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River delta. His research is focused on physical and biological processes at lower trophic levels that affect recruitment variability in fish populations, and occurs in both the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. He is currently Program Manager for the Recruitment Processes Program at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center, and co-leader (with Dr. Phyllis Stabeno) of NOAA’s Ecosystems and Fisheries Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (EcoFOCI).
