Ana Aguilar-Islas is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Oceanography at the School of Fisheries and Ocean Science of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her research interests encompass the marine biogeochemistry of trace metals with particular emphasis on high latitude regions. A combination of field and laboratory studies are used to understand how different physical, chemical and biological processes regulate trace metal speciation and distribution in the open ocean and coastal regions, and how these in turn affect the ecosystem. She received a Ph.D. in Ocean Sciences from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2007. Ana is contributing to the Controlling Mechanisms for Nutrients, Plankton and Larval Fishes aspect of the Gulf of Alaska Project.
